Sessions
I actively engage with my clients. This means that I will ask questions, provide feedback, share perspectives and/or opinions but in no way do I believe you need to take them on.
The aim is to see what you think of what I say or ask and how it lands for you, from there I will support you in figuring out what fits best for you. I also welcome your feedback, even if you think I’m not going to like it.
I will also respectfully and compassionately challenge you, I will follow your lead if anything feels like too much and I won’t shy away from being direct with you when it is necessary.
Moi
My professional experience is based in the field of HIV prevention, sex work and substance use/misuse by providing services in community centers and non profit organizations. The first half of my career was predominantly working with adults and youth that were unhoused while trying to manage a severe mental illness. I moved into private practice 12 years ago and have an office in the Flatiron district of New York City.
I can provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples in Spanish or English. For folks who live non traditional sexual relationships and expressions, including kink and poly dynamics, you will feel accepted and at ease in session with me. For folks who are trying to manage their behaviors (whether it be sex or drugs) - you will also experience no judgment in our work.
The therapeutic framework I use is from relational psychoanalytic theory rooted in social justice. I approach any behavior change from a harm reduction perspective and specialize in complex trauma. I studied psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill and Northeastern before completing my graduate degree at the California Institute of Integral Studies. I also did two years of relational psychoanalytic training at the Stephen Mitchell Center and one year at the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis.
If you are considering therapy or even pondering on whether this is a right fit for you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
